On the sidelines of the FDI Regional Congress in Mombasa, Prof. Tarek Abbas, President of the African Regional Organization of the FDI (ARO), held a meeting with a number of African dental leaders. The meeting took place in the presence of Dr Nikolai Sharkov, President of the FDI World Dental Federation, and Prof. Nour Habib, treasurer of the Egyptian Dental Association.
According to the Egyptian Dental Association, which announced the meeting, its purpose was to strengthen professional collaboration and to build a shared vision among African countries.
Discussions centred on the role of ARO in promoting pan-African cooperation: the exchange of scientific and professional expertise, the advancement of continuing dental education, and the strengthening of oral health services across the continent. The association said these efforts are aimed at raising professional standards and working towards shared goals that improve oral health for African communities.

The meeting was held alongside the FDI Regional Congress and the 43rd KDA Annual Scientific Conference and Exhibition, hosted at the PrideInn Paradise Beach Resort in Mombasa from 21 to 23 October 2026 under the theme “Advancing Dentistry in Africa.” The congress drew 462 delegates from Kenya and 24 other countries, 12 of them African — the kind of gathering that makes a meeting of this sort possible in the first place.
