About KDA
About the Kenya Dental Association
Founded in 1960, KDA is the sole professional body representing every registered dentist in Kenya — uniting the profession, advancing the science of dentistry, and championing oral health for a healthier nation.
Who We Are
The Kenya Dental Association (KDA) is a non-political, non-religious professional society registered under the Societies Act (Cap 108). Since 1960, KDA has been the unifying platform that enables dentists across Kenya to speak with one voice on every matter affecting the profession and on issues of national interest. We serve as the trusted link between dentists, government, regulatory bodies, dental schools, and development partners — and we represent Kenya internationally through active membership in the Fédération Dentaire Internationale (FDI) and the Commonwealth Dental Association.
Today, KDA is at a historic turning point. Guided by our Strategic Plan 2026–2030, we are transforming from a traditional learned society into a modern, professionally governed, financially self-sustaining national institution that is indispensable to every dentist and authoritative in every conversation about oral health in Kenya.

Recognition & Mandate
KDA draws its authority from the Societies Act and is officially recognised as the sole professional body for dentistry in Kenya by:
- Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) — the statutory regulator of the profession.
- The Ministry of Health (Kenya) — for policy, advocacy and public-health collaboration.
- Fédération Dentaire Internationale (FDI) — the global federation of national dental associations.
- Commonwealth Dental Association — through active regional and international engagement.
How We Are Governed
KDA is led by an elected National Governing Council (NGC) composed of the President, Vice President, Secretary General, Assistant Secretary, Honorable Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer, the Immediate Past President, elected Council Members and a Branch Representative. The day-to-day affairs of the Association are managed by the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the Secretariat, with regional branches across Kenya driving local engagement. All office bearers are elected in accordance with the KDA Constitution (2024) and serve under a transparent leadership code of conduct.
