TLDR:
KMPDC cracks down on fraudulent use of “Dr” title by unregistered individuals posing as medical professionals online and in practice.
The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council is concerned about the increase in online platforms where individuals claiming to be medical professionals provide false medical advice and treatment to unsuspecting users.
Legal Position:
Section 22(3) of CAP 253 states that any person who uses the title “doctor” unless registered or licensed under this Act, or holding doctoral qualifications entitling use of that title, commits an offence.
Penalties:
- Fine not exceeding five million shillings
- Imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years
- Or both
Section 22(2) further prohibits use of “Dr (Medical/dental)” without requisite qualifications or to purport to offer medical/dental services.
